Does BlazeMaster CPVC perform reliably in a fire?


Yes. BlazeMaster CPVC is UL listed and FM approved to perform reliably in a fire when installed per its listings.  

Rather than burning, BlazeMaster CPVC chars when exposed to flame. That charred outer layer acts as a thermal barrier that helps protect the pipe’s interior and maintain water flow to active sprinkler heads during a fire event.

BlazeMaster CPVC also:
  • Has an ignition temperature of 900°F
  • Requires a Limiting Oxygen Index (LOI) of 60% to sustain combustion
  • Will not burn in a normal atmospheric environment (21% oxygen)

Is smoke from CPVC pipe toxic?


No. smoke from BlazeMaster® CPVC pipe and fittings is no more toxic than smoke from wood
and less toxic than smoke from common materials like cotton.

Can BlazeMaster CPVC be used in a hybrid system with steel pipe?


Yes. hybrid systems that combine BlazeMaster CPVC branch lines with steel mains are widely used and fully supported under both NFPA 13 and NFPA 13R.

Transitioning between materials is straightforward using threaded adapters or grooved couplings. This approach is common on commercial projects where steel is used for bulk distribution and CPVC is used for branch lines to support faster installation and lower overall system cost.

Can BlazeMaster CPVC be installed exposed?


Yes. BlazeMaster CPVC can be installed in both concealed and exposed applications when installed per its listing.

Exposed installations require:

  • Quick-response or residential sprinkler heads
  • Smooth, flat, horizontal ceilings

Compatible decorative coverings can also be applied where appearance is a priority.

One common concern is UV exposure. While prolonged sunlight can cause minor discoloration and slight surface hardening, it does not affect the pipe’s long-term pressure performance.

Yes. BlazeMaster CPVC is compatible with water-based latex and acrylic paints when proper compatibility guidelines are followed.

Before painting:

Is there a height or story limit to buildings in which BlazeMaster CPVC can be installed?


No. BlazeMaster CPVC is UL listed and FM approved for Light Hazard occupancies with no height or story limitations. NFPA 13, NFPA 13R, and NFPA 13D also do not limit the use of nonmetallic piping to certain building heights.
