BlazeMaster® CPVC Installation Best Practices

Get the Facts About Fast, Easy Installation

BlazeMaster® CPVC is the world’s most specified nonmetallic fire sprinkler system for many good reasons – one of which is its ease of installation. Here are a few tips on how you can be assured of a great installation – every time.

Best Practice #1: Handle with Care

BlazeMaster CPVC Pipes

Keep BlazeMaster CPVC pipe and fittings in the original packaging until needed. Avoid direct contact with sunlight. Never use pipe faded due to sunlight.

INSIDER’S TIP: Made in the shade: Keep pipe stored outside covered with an opaque tarp.

Cut CPVC Pipe

Best Practice #2: Cut and Join Like a Pro

Use a sharp-bladed ratchet cutter (only at 50 F/10 C or higher), wheel-type plastic tubing cutter, power saw or fine tooth saw to cut pipe squarely. Deburr the inside, bevel the outside. Test fit the pipe to begin with.

INSIDER’S TIP: Never use a ratchet cutter to modify or repair an existing system. You’ll risk cracking the pipe.

Best Practice #3: Solving Solvent

Follow the manufacturer’s instructions in regard to proper clothing, personal protective equipment (PPE), ventilation, storage and contact. Note special directions for cold weather applications.

INSIDER’S TIP: If the can of solvent cement is outdated or the cement is gelled or discolored, always open a fresh can. Apply cement to the outside of the pipe first – then to the fitting – to prevent puddles from developing.

Best Practice #4: The Cure for Everything

Follow manufacturer’s cure schedules at all times for pressure, pipes size and temperature. Note: this assumes that the pipe and fittings are dry. If water is present, cure times increase.

INSIDER’S TIP: Cure times to modify or repair an existing system are longer. View our Cure Schedules.

Best Practice #5: Finishing Touches

Never use Teflon™ tape and thread sealant simultaneously. Solvent weld sprinkler head adapters prior to installing sprinkler heads. Ensure that the waterway is not obstructed before installing the sprinkler head. Allow for movement due to expansion and contraction – especially in cold weather.
