Fire sprinkler installers play a critical role in ensuring BlazeMaster® Fire Protection Systems are effective in protecting people and property. Every foot of pipe and every sprinkler head an installer puts in place may save the life of a building occupant or first responder.

That’s why we offer a variety of training options to help installers stay current on best practices and credentialing. While in-person trainings are on hold due to COVID-19 restrictions, we offer live and self-paced online training programs that cover all the essential information.

Over the past year, our live online training sessions have become especially popular due to social distancing restrictions related to COVID-19. About 3,500 installers have completed the live training in 2020.

Led by a two-person team, the live sessions provide a forum in which installers can learn the latest installation standards while asking questions and viewing live hands-on demonstrations. Participants submit questions using the chat feature.

Comprehensive Content

The sessions are offered monthly and can be accessed anywhere in the world. The training can be completed in about three hours including the online test if needed. Key topics include:

  • Installation best practices. In addition to covering the latest updates to codes and standards, the training includes live demonstrations. Instructors can zoom in to show hands-on techniques such as cutting pipe squarely. These close-up visuals offer an advantage over in-person sessions that may not offer such a clear view.
  • Chemical compatibility. The instructors provide insights to help installers understand the full ecosystem in which BlazeMaster CPVC will function. For instance, chemicals in common substances such as kitchen grease or electrical wire can cause compatibility issues.
  • Building codes and special listings. We are continually improving and updating installation practices – the training presentation is updated at least annually – so the online training brings installers up to date.

Many of the participants seek to renew their two-year training cards. In addition, a significant number of installers want to simply stay on top of fast-changing best practices. The BlazeMaster CPVC installation guides are updated every 6-8 months, so the training helps installers keep pace with fast-changing practices. These installers are going above and beyond, which reflects pride in their profession.

Benefits of Online Training

  • COVID-compliant. Given the pandemic, in-person training sessions are not realistic. Online options ensure installers can stay current.

  • About the same number of people pass the certification test who complete the online vs. in-person trainings.

  • For contractors, there’s no need to wait for scheduling an in-person session led by a BlazeMaster representative – and work doesn’t need to stop for all the installers to participate.

  • In addition to live sessions, we are now offering a recorded version as well as a self-paced training that installers can access at any time. They can complete the training without taking time away from work or family.

Overall, live online sessions have been a big success and are here to stay. Based on that success, we are working to offer live online sessions for engineers and Authorities Having Jurisdiction in the near future. Stay tuned for future updates!
