Temporary COVID-19 Hospitals Fitted with Blazemaster

Amid the global response to the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, local governments and health authorities around the world have implemented the opening of many temporary facilities. Some built from the ground up, others repurposed, for the treatment, testing or recovery of COVID-19 patients.

Due to the nature of the disease, these projects have been swift. BlazeMaster CPVC has become part of this story. The quick, easy installation of pipe and fittings has made the fast turnaround of two renovated medical facilities possible.

In February, Pipe installers Vizol completed two hospital renovation projects. Their task was to refurbish existing facilities into proper temporary facilities that can receive, treat and cure COVID-19 patients.

In the Sichuan Province in China, the Cheng Du Hospital for Infectious Diseases required an urgent and decisive renovation, which included the opening of 400 negative pressure wards. Each ward had to be a clean, safe environment, isolated from all others, to protect patients from this airborne infectious disease. Success was determined by the installers’ ability to undertake this huge task in just five days.

They chose BlazeMaster CPVC to fulfil the fire safety requirements of the project’s critical path. Having prior experience with these CPVC pipes, the installation team were able to supply 370 wards with sprinkler pipes in just two days.

The same installation team chose BlazeMaster CPVC as the pipe and fittings necessary for the quick installation of fire sprinkler systems at the Zhuhai 5th Affiliated Hospital of Zhongshan University, Guangdong Province. This facility has also been equipped to receive and treat COVID-19 patients since early this year.

Precious Time: Installing BlazeMaster CPVC

A fast, convenient installation is possible through the application of BlazeMaster CPVC, thanks to the solvent cement technique of installation. With a simple duber, a one-man team can install a strong, lasting joint between two CPVC pipes and fittings in minutes. This time and labour-saving translates into precious time working on the ward for healthcare professionals.

However, this does not only apply to temporary structures or fast refurbishments. BlazeMaster CPVC can be installed using this same method to serve residential and commercial properties for many years, thanks to its superior strength and resistance to heat or corrosion. While it has been a popular choice for installations with very little precious time, it has also been approved for use in permanent structures such as hospitals, schools and multiple-occupancy residences for vulnerable people for many years.

Temporary medical structures have emerged across the world as a frontline asset in the medical efforts against COVID-19. More recently, in April two more emergency COVID-19 hospitals were announced, to accommodate up to 1,500 beds in Bristol and Harrogate in the UK. And in May this year, the UK government announced a £93 million investment in a new vaccine manufacturing centre

Fast construction projects, whose implications make a life-changing difference need materials we can trust for a quick, efficient and safe installation. There’s a quick and easy way to find out more about how fire safety professionals can get to work faster with BlazeMaster CPVC.
