Your Questions Answered

Due to the popularity of the event and the amount of great questions and discussion points submitted, we were unable to address all of them in the live broadcast. However, together with our panel of experts, we have addressed your questions below.

Your Industry Questions
I'm interested in sprinkler retrofit for mobile homes/residential caravans; any suggestions?

If these are permanently sited, it will be possible to fit sprinkler systems using CPVC. Temperature, however, could be an issue so trace heating & lagging may also be required.

Your Legislation & Standards Questions
Why is the importance and benefits of sprinklers in domestic homes not being promoted to the general public more?

Over the last few years in particular, there has been an increase in efforts to spread awareness of the benefits of domestic sprinklers and our work to increase that awareness continues.

Your Installation Questions
How does too much solvent cement weaken the joint being made?

It can puddle inside the joint. Where you have issues with excess cement puddling inside the pipe, you can get softening, after which the pipe eventually ruptures.

Do the tanks refill as they are being emptied by the sprinklers in operation?

Yes. The tanks are fitted with a ball float valve similar to that used in a water storage cistern, but bigger. When water is used, the water is automatically refilled by the mains supply via the ball-float valve.

Do you feel that there is sufficient awareness by installers of the potential consequences of incompatibility of CPVC?

Installers are certainly well aware. However we are continuing to develop educational resources for a wider array of stakeholders.

Do you need to use a solvent cleaner prior to cement?

No, the pipework just needs to be cleaned with a clean cloth.

Your CPVC Questions
How can the chemical sensitivity of CPVC be satisfactorily managed in a building through its whole-life?

We recommend utilizing our FBC system compatible program in selecting products coming into contact with BlazeMaster Fire Protection Systems. Products in this program are safe to use with our products for both new construction and maintenance.

Furthermore, most manufacturers provide documents and notifications that can be provided to the building owner, or posted in the mechanical room etc.

Will CPVC withstand the additional pressure involved in misting systems?

We would recommend discussing specifics on the system you have in mind. Prior to specifying or using BlazeMaster CPVC for mist systems, please get in touch with us and we would be happy to provide technical support.
