You Cannot Afford NOT to Install a Fire Sprinkler System

If you are a tower block owner, registered social landlord or someone who still believes that a fire sprinkler system is too expensive – or not needed – to include in a new flat or for a retrofit project, you’re in the minority.

Realizing that tower blocks less than 30 metres in height are not required by law to have such a system is no longer an excuse. Two years after the Grenfell Tower Fire, buyers of properties nationwide are asking about fire protection systems on a property’s first look. Who would have thought that kerb appeal – typically associated with colours, doors, gardens and the like – would include fire sprinklers?

It’s a fact. Fire protection systems save lives. Think about it. Would you consider purchasing a new home or flat without fire protection today? Conversely, think about this. If you are the owner of a private home or flat and plan to sell it in the near future, fire protection – or lack thereof – could be a determining factor in a sale.

No Sprinkler System? No Mortgage.

In at least one reported instance, mortgages were denied on housing association flats due to lack of a sprinkler system. Inside Housing reported that the Leeds Building Society declined mortgages for flats in Richmond House, a seven-story block in Southend, Essex.

It’s no wonder that retrofit projects are proliferating throughout the nation.

One drawback that is slowing the rate of these projects is the lack of contractors with proper training and third-party accreditation. But assuming that a proper installer has been found, and cost is still a factor, consider CPVC fire sprinkler piping – and specifically BlazeMaster® CPVC as your best option.

Minimizing Costs, Maximizing Safety

You have two basic material choices for a fire protection system – CPVC or steel piping. In terms of material, steel costs are inherently higher than that of CPVC. Steel is more cumbersome to install and generally costs more in terms of installation labour. You will most likely need a costly hot work permit. CPVC also offers an advantage in terms of corrosion resistance and reliable hydraulics – think “less maintenance, lower cost of ownership” when it comes to CPVC.

And when considering CPVC, it’s a fact that BlazeMaster CPVC fire sprinkler pipe was the first on the market, more than 30 years ago. Today, BlazeMaster Fire Protection Systems continue to lead the industry through pressure-rated compounds, state-of-the-art processing, rigorous product testing and successful manufacturing partnerships.

BlazeMaster CPVC is backed by the FBC™ System Compatible Program, a chemical compatibility program unique to BlazeMaster CPVC and second to none in the industry. It helps specifiers, designers and contractors quickly identify which ancillary products have chemical compatibility with BlazeMaster Fire Protection Systems – and which do not.

The FBC System Compatible Program is the gold standard among contractors, builders, specifiers, building owners, AHJs and fire officials as the mark of assurance that ancillary products have undergone rigorous third-party testing that has confirmed them to be compatible with BlazeMaster CPVC.

There are no shortcuts to fire protection safety. But there are affordable – and reliable – ways to meet your safety goals.
