3M JOINS FGG/BM® SYSTEM COMPATIBLE PROGRAM

IC 15WB Sealant Reformulated to Ensure Chemical Compatibility
With Noveon’s CPVC Products

CLEVELAND, OH – 3M Fire Protection Products has joined a long list of other manufacturers that participate in the FGG/BM® System Compatible program, developed by Noveon. Its IC 15WB fire barrier sealant was recently reformulated for the sole purpose of ensuring the sealant’s compatibility with FlowGuard Gold®, BlazeMaster® and Corzan® CPVC pipe and fittings. The new product, IC 15WB+ will display the special FGG/BM compatible mark which quickly tells installers that the product is compatible with Noveon’s CPVC products. Noveon, formerly the Performance Materials division of BFGoodrich, is credited with creating the first CPVC formulation back in 1959. Today it continues to lead the industry with other product innovations and advanced listings.

“As a leader in the development of fire protection products, we felt it was necessary to be able to supply our customers with a product that met the compatibility requirements of this unique program,” said Dana Decker, marketing manager for 3M Fire Protection Products. “This reformulated product offers installers the confidence that our product has actually undergone Noveon’s testing to ensure chemical compatibility with Noveon CPVC products.”

According to Decker, the intumescent sealant was chosen as a result of its competitive pricing and because its fire rating met the requirements of two hours of protection, which is a common standard in most commercial construction applications.

“We jumped at this opportunity to grow our business in the area of plumbing and fire sprinkler systems,” said Decker. “CPVC is becoming more popular on many job sites, so we’re excited to be able to tell contractors that we have a product that has been proven compatible with Noveon CPVC products. The FGG/BM System Compatible program is the only one of its kind that we have encountered in our business, so we are very pleased to be a part of it.”

Decker confirmed that the new IC 15WB+ sealant features all of the same user benefits as its predecessor product. Users will not experience any noticeable changes as a result of the reformulation.

Noveon launched the FGG/BM System Compatible program in 2002 to increase installer confidence that the approved products would not fail as a result of chemical incompatibility. Only manufacturers that have passed specific compatibility tests are able to place the specially designed FGG/BM compatible mark on their products.

“Prior to this program, installers had to read the label to determine if a product was compatible,” said Donald Townley, marketing manager for FlowGuard Gold pipe and fittings. “In many cases, they had to call the manufacturer to verify chemical compatibility. Our exclusive program eliminates those questions and ensures our systems will not be damaged by incompatible ancillary products.”

Since CPVC products are made with base resins having different molecular weights and varying chlorine contents and compound additives, the FGG/BM System Compatible program can only verify chemical compatibility for the products with which they have been tested (i.e. Noveon products).

Today there are nearly 20 products included in the FGG/BM System Compatible program. For more information about the program and its requirements, visit www.blazemaster.com, or call 888/234-2436.
