BlazeMaster Fire Sprinkler Systems

Ideal for Nursing Homes and
Assisted Living Facilities

Only about one in five nursing homes today have full fire sprinkler coverage. To address this gap in fire safety, a bill was introduced in Congress that would require all nursing home facilities to have fire sprinklers by the year 2013. Prior to the bill becoming a law, on June 18, 2008 the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services created a regulation that mandates all long term care facilities serving Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries be required to have comprehensive fire sprinkler systems by 2013. It is estimated that the new regulation affects 3,500 existing facilities.

BlazeMaster fire sprinkler systems are ideal for this type of retrofit construction. The CPVC system is cost-effective and features a fast, easy, clean installation – minimizing disruption to occupants. In fact, retrofitting with BlazeMaster pipe and fittings can help building owners save up to 40 percent in total installed costs when compared to metallic systems*.

A BlazeMaster CPVC fire sprinkler system also offers:

  • Low flame and smoke characteristics – BlazeMaster pipe and fittings will not support flame or contribute to flashover
  • Corrosion, scale and MIC resistance – BlazeMaster pipe and fittings exhibit superior flow characteristics and a long, reliable service life
  • Proven performance – BlazeMaster systems have been successfully installed for more than 20 years

Nursing Home Fire Facts

  • The National Fire Protection Association finds no record of a multiple death fire in a nursing facility equipped with an automatic fire sprinkler system.
  • An estimated 1.5 million Americans reside in approximately 16,300 nursing facilities nationwide, an estimated 20 to 30 percent of which lack an automatic fire sprinkler system.
  • Many nursing facilities lack the financial capital to install sprinklers on their own.
  • In a July 2004 report, the General Accounting Office found that the substantial loss of life in the Hartford and Nashville nursing home fires could have been reduced or eliminated by the presence of properly functioning automatic sprinkler systems' and that `Federal oversight of nursing home compliance with fire safety standards is inadequate.
  • Automatic fire sprinkler systems greatly improve the chances of survival for older adults in the event of a fire.
